About UNIS Chess Team

The UNIS Chess team brings students who are serious about chess improvement together to compete at local, state and national events. Once a week students meet after school for a chess lesson and practice to hone their skills for competition.

The program's inaugural year was a fantastic success. Teammates improved tremendously, competed giving their all, and had plenty of fun building team spirit while picking up trophies along the way.  Now in it's second year I continue to expect great things. - Tal Kestenberg

-Practice time (after lesson until clean up)

-Coaching at tournaments (local, state and national)

-Progress reports (assessments quarterly 6-8 weeks)

-Chesskid.com memberships (for home improvement and further practice)

Student Qualifications for the team:

-USCF Rated or willing to join & play rated games

-On last year’s team / in last year’s advanced chess class, or have a recommendation from a chess teacher.

-Willing to do homework and be attentive in class (not just for themselves, but for the team!).
